SCOPE OF WORK

The Cross River Rail Albert Street Demolition Package was a critical component of Brisbane’s Cross River Rail project, aimed at enhancing the city’s transport infrastructure. DECC was engaged as the Principal Contractor to oversee the demolition of multiple structures within the Albert Street precinct. The project involved the removal of brick and concrete buildings up to six stories high, extensive hazardous material abatement, and the implementation of comprehensive public and pedestrian protection measures. Given the urban setting and the project's scale, it required meticulous planning and execution to ensure safety and compliance with all relevant regulations.

KEY ACTIVITIES

Demolition of Multi-Storey Structures: DECC undertook the demolition of multiple brick and concrete structures, ranging from two to six stories in height. The demolition was executed using conventional techniques, including the use of large excavators equipped with demolition extension arms and pulverisers, which allowed for precise dismantling without the need for hammering, thereby minimising noise and vibration.

Hazardous Materials Removal: The project involved the comprehensive removal of hazardous materials, including asbestos, from the existing buildings. This was conducted in strict compliance with environmental and safety regulations, ensuring the site was cleared and certified safe for further development.

Public and Pedestrian Protection Measures: Due to the project’s location in a busy urban area, extensive public and pedestrian protection measures were implemented. This included the erection of scaffolding and hoarding around the demolition site, as well as traffic management plans to ensure the safety of both the public and construction workers.
